The best location in Prague
One of the more original and romantic hotels in the city, U Prince is constructed in the shell of a 12th-century building.
The 15 rooms, seven suites and two apartments are all fairly spacious, and furnished with heavy antique wooden furniture and tasteful decorations that include restored painted wooden ceilings. Double-glazing protects the front rooms, which face the constant hubbub of the square. Having undergone a major refurbishment in 2001, the hotel is now equipped with a smartly arranged front terrace, seafood restaurant, wine bar and also a superlative roof terrace that offers sensational views over the city.
Best of all, U Prince prides itself on providing an intimate experience, emphasizing not only upmarket tranquillity but also professional service. It’s not the cheapest spot in town, but it does offer a piece of the past, an almost unsurpassed feeling of romance, and a location that couldn’t be more central if it tried.
U Prince's roof terrace has some of the most beautiful views across the Old Town, it beats the pavement cafe that draws crowds for coffee waiting for the astronomical clock to chime and the morality play to begin. Romantic, elegant and old-fashioned U Prince is a surprising gem.

Client's reviews
Out of all the hotels I have stayed at in Prague, the Hotel U Prince is by far my favorite. The top floor bar/lounge has the best view of Old Town Square! Outstanding classic old European decor, lovely rooms, exceptional service. Right in the middle of it all. You will feel like European royalty at this hotel.
We've just come back from a short break staying at the U Prince and are both really perplexed at some of the poor reviews we've read here. Everyone we met who worked in the hotel was welcoming and kind - maybe a little shy at first but once you'd made the effort to smile and say hello they couldn't have been nicer. The hotel itself is in such a beautiful setting, and being there so near Christmas just made it more magical. Our room was stunning, overlooking the square and very comfortable. We've stayed at a lot of top hotels and thought this was far nicer than some of its slicker modern equivalents. I wouldn't hesitate recommending the U Prince to anyone - just smile and enjoy!
I cannot say anything bad about this hotel. The location is the best. The service is also great. After reading all the negative review about the staff, I was having second thoughts about staying at this hotel. ALL the staff was helpful and friendly. You can walk any where from here. The Clock is right outside the hotel. The Bridge is about a 6 minutre walk. Next time I go to Prague, I plan on staying at this hotel again.
I am beginning to wonder if there are two U Prince hotels. The one I just stayed at was a very pleasurable three day stay, with an efficient, affable staff. The room was spacious , well decorated, air-conditioned and very quite. It is true the hallways do carry the orders from the upstairs and downstairs kitchens but on the other hand the restaurants was good. (The views from the roof top one are spectacular and worth the price for that alone.) We asked for breakfast to be served in the room and it arrived very promptly. My only complaint about that would be there was enough food on the tray for at least 6 people. I can only assume the negative reviews are mostly from people who haven’t traveled much in Eastern Europe; for a formerly Soviet state the Czechs can only be described as ‘enchanting.’ It should be pointed out that service charge is standard in Europe but many restaurants, including U Prince, have a plate charge on top of that. (About one Euro per person.) I have heard stories that the ‘tips’ actually go into the pockets of the management and not to the waiters. Guess that would make anyone surly. I would definitely recommend to anyone my U Prince hotel. Particularly if you are doing Prague on foot. The location could not be better. And for a building that dates back to the 14th century, well what do you want?
We stopped in the Hotel U Prince for 5 nights in July when we came to Prague to get married. When we contacted the hotel in advance of arrival and explained the reason for our visit and that our wedding reception was to be held at their hotel, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite - a beautiful room with the bed on a mezzanine level and an outlook on the astronomical clock. Throughout our stay, the service was friendly and very efficient. Additionally, on the night of our wedding reception, the food, atmosphere and service was nothing short of excellent and complimented the occassion perfectly.
We stayed in a Junior Suite at the hotel which had a massive 6ft bed.!The room was large and very clean, there was a bath but not a shower. We ate at the roof terrace where the waiters are miserable and the restaurant where the waiters were nice. The food in both restaurants was excellent and well worth eating there since this was some of the nicest food we ate in Prague. The hotel is well positioned since it is in the centre of where you need to be. If I stay in prague again i would definately stay at this hotel.
We had a great stay at U Prince, with excellent service and would definitely stay there again. We read the bad reviews about the service and decided to stay there anyway because of the location - which can't be beat. You can eat breakfast and see the Astronomical Clock from your table. Our room was amazing - with a terrace overlooking the Old Town Square (Room #23 - I think this is the only room with the terrace over the square). Our service experience: 1. We have a 6 month old baby and like all of Europe, you can't escape stairs. The hotel staff offerred to help us with our stroller everytime they saw us. In particular, Thomas went beyond nice and carried my stroller up several stairs to the Roof Terrace. 2. Room service is brought to your room very quickly and in courses as if you were dining at the restaurant - all without a charge. 3. We had various other requests and all were addressed promptly and courteously. 4. Because of our baby, the room we were originally given was too small, we thought it was going to be bigger based on the pictures on the website - they looked at what other rooms they had available and gave us #23 - it was an upgrade from what we had booked and paid for. 5. We needed a taxi to the airport and they arranged it - our bags were waiting in the taxi when we returned to the hotel to leave. Service experiences are subjective - which is why I generally read comments regarding service with less interest. But after reading so many bad reviews regarding the service and then having the fantastic experience we had - I'm glad I ignored the reviews. Prague is a beautiful city and the people were very nice.
We got an excellent price from the hotel's website for a junior suite. The hotel is gorgeous and very well decorated. Our suite was beautiful, a very comfortable king bed up on a mezzanine and a single in the sitting room. We didn't have a view, but it didn't really matter. The only complaint was the shower was just a hand held one and you had to be under 5ft to use it standing up. A tea/coffee maker would have been nice, but it wasn't too expensive to order from room service. Check in was very easy and whenever we needed to use reception they were very helpful and knowledgeable, all the staff were very friendly and chatty. The location next to the astronomical clock was fantastic and we were there while the easter market was on. We only heard the clock chiming through the night occasionally but the parrots in reception made a noise all night. Breakfast was terrible and after the first morning we just stayed in bed and went out for something later. We went to Kutna Hora for the day, but hired a driver rather than do an escorted tour. This worked out quite reasonable and we got to spend the time we wanted at each stop rather than being told when to leave. It also allowed us to take a very long lunch at Dacicky Pivnice, this place was amazing and the lads said the beerwas the best they'd had in Prague. It was so good, next time we go to Prague we are going to have a night or two in Kutna Hora to go back for dinner and beer! Prague is an amazing city that everyone should see at least once, but before the euro comes in in 2012 and prices become too expensive.
If you are going to Prague...which is a beautiful city...I would recomment staying at the U Prince....the location is unbeatable!!!!It is right in the Old Town Square near the astronomical clock. Most major sites are easily walkable. The hotel building is beautiful...from the 1200's...the rooms are beautifully decorated with old world charm...the room size is nice and quite clean...the shower was not so great and the air conditioning weak(but not unusual in Europe)..the breakfast is good with a nice selection. The staff is helpful and reasonably friendly...no real problem...the Czech's are just not a really warm people to Americans. A few tips.....to get to and from the airport try the Prague Experience(can get on-line).....waiting for us at the airport and prompt to take us to the airport...the price was reasonable. To see the Prague Castle..take the tram #22 which you can get from the Tesco dept store which is a 5-8 minute walk from the hotel..it drops you off right at the castle.... the walk is a bit too long and up a big hill...you can get the $1 tram ticket at the Tourist office which is right across from the hotel. Would definately stay at this hotel again!!!
I didn't stay at this hotel, just went to the rooftop terrace bar based off of a suggestion from a local. The views of Prague were amazing. You can literally see everything. Even though it was late November, it wasn't too cold to be at a rooftop bar, and they also had heat lamps, which helped. Probably would be a great place to hang out in the summer. Nice spot to to take a break, grab a drink and check out the view when exploring Prague.
Stayed at the U Prince February 13th - 16th 2007. Had booked a standard room but was upgraded to a Junior Suite on arrival. Fabulous hotel in the Old Town Square. Clean, beautiful decor and friendly staff. They even collected us from the airport. Also, the rooftop views are spectacular. Only downside is the church clock opposite which rings throughout the night but it's a small price to pay for such a wonderful location. Highly Recommended.
We just got back from another fabulous stay in prague and i just had to comment on the u prince, this hotel is great and the location doesnt get any better. The hotel is nicely decorated, clean and the food is good, yes the staff are a bit sharp somtimes but tip accordingly, the same applies to anywhere in prague, if you dont like the service leave a crap tip! The room we had was a junior suite with the huge bed on another level, it certainly had the wow factor. It had a big tv with a few channels one being porn but you dont have to watch it but it was far more interesting than german tv. The breakfast was good, lots of choice but the drinks arnt "help yourself" so beware if youve sampled czech beer the night before, you will go thirsty. My advice is to visit tesco and get yourself a selection of drinks as the mini bar isnt cheap, and there are no tea & coffee making facilities. All in all this is a good hotel and the roof terrace is a must, we had a great stay. Prague is such a magical place this trip was my third, just remember to take your comfy shoes!!
I found my stay at the U Prince to be incredibly wonderful. The reception staff was kind and courteous, and even printed out train schedules and kept our bags for the afternoon after our stay. The room (24) had two story windows that overlooked the clock and the square. The decor was classically European and the bed was exceedingly comfortable. Breakfast was on par with the other hotel (Metamorphosis) that I've stayed at in Prague. I would certianly recommend this hotel!
We booked this hotel with some apprehension after reading previous reviews but we are so glad that we did. This hotel is wonderful. The location is fantastic, on the Old Town Square near the Astronomical Clock, all of the sights of Prague are in easy walking distance. We splashed out and booked a suite, the rooms were gorgeous with a fantastic bed and we had a terrace that overlooked the square. The staff at all times were helpful and accommodating, not grumpy at all. The hotel restaurant is very popular and has a good atmosphere, largely I think because of the jazz band that plays nightly. There was some slight noise from the jazz band but nothing too disturbing though I think if you were on the first floor directly over the band this could be an issue. I should check this point when you book. We would definitely use this hotel again!
This hotel is smack bang centrally located in the Old Town Centre, a perfect location with easy access to all areas in Prague! Reception staff were most efficient and helpful (thanks to Sara) which is more than I can say for the restaurant/bar staff, however this seems to be the general attitude Prague wide. We were fortunate to be given room 31 which is much bigger than the average double room with a spacious bathroom. Upon opening the door I knew this was the place to be, luxury with a true Bohemian feel, and the under floor heating combined with central heating was almost unbearably hot but a welcome from the outside cold. The ceiling was beamed and exquisitely painted (it's the double room featured on the website and in literature) which added to the charm (our friends room was smaller with a plain white plastered ceiling). The bed was big, extremely comfortable with big fluffy pillows, essential when you have a very tall husband and the mini bar was reasonably priced . Breakfast was tasty with a wide choice from English to Continental, pastries (yesterdays), muesli, fruit, yoghurts etc definitely set you up for the day (I would rate it as a 4star breakfast), but once again staff were not always obliging... Still we were totally enamoured by Prague and do check out the Terrace cafe, at night as it offers the most magical and enchanting views of all the centres church spires and roof tops. The hotels bar is also a restaurant and at night comes alive with a "Dixy" type jazz band, be aware that the prices do not always mention extra service charge, vat and cover charge! TheTourist office is just across the way, well equipped with local tours and literature, you're spoilt for choice. We experienced and highly recommend the Jazz boat, Triton restaurant which was pricey but classy, 7 angels restaurant mid-range prices, Municipal House cafe etc. We went on a private guided tour which we paid a premium for as we preferred to be alone, well worth it too! Public transport's cheap but ensure you verify your travel ticket as you enter just before the escalators. The castle is fascinating, St Nicholas church amazing, Charles Bridge breath-taking, in fact I can't say a bad word about anything or anywhere, I am totally smitten by this place! We even visited a Thai massage parlour - which was both a pleasurable and painful experience. Jazz Bar's may claim to be free but charge between 200 to 300 czk , arrive well in time to get a seat as they are generally in a confined space, but again well worth it. A czech pub is a must and the food is cheap and big, would recommend "U Fleku" but call in advance if you want a tour round the brewery. We also hired a car for one day (not cheap) and went to the Spa City Karlovy Vary 150km away, so it was interesting to see the country landscape (nothing special) and the roads are dodgy especially at night as there are hardly any markings to guide you and in rain, visibility is zilch. The Spa city was absolutely beautiful and we visited the springs where you may purchase a cup and taste the water which is disgusting despite it's healing properties. Take a swim suit if you want to visit a day Spa which we did called " Zamecke Lazne " relaxing and reasonably priced. Prague will always have a special place in my heart....enjoy!!!
Everything about this hotel is excellent. Position for touring city is wonderful, locsted in square from where most of tours go from, Staff pleasant, Facilities good, Food really good, Prices fair, Very quiet hotel, but bars can get busy, very suitable for couples, not lads and ladettes on weekend breaks. View from roof terrace worth seeing
We stayed at the U Prince last November, our first visit to Prague, on a B&B basis. The hotel itself is very Gothic and atmospheric, as if Count Dracula were the interior designer. Our room was fabulous; it had no outside view but 'interior windows' which overlooked the reception area. It had a beautifully clean and surprisingly modern bathroom and stairs up to a mezzanine level bedroom with the biggest bed imaginable, replete with huge, carved wooden headboard. The parrot in reception was, admittedly, a tad too chirpy for my liking in the morning, but at least he chilled at bedtime! The Roof Terrace bar has the most fantastic views, especially after dark when all the church spires are lit up like a magical Disney film set. Breathtaking! The patio heaters ensure you stay cosy even in the dead of winter. The hotel concierge was a very amiable chap and didn't even mind coming to help when I cocked the room safe combination up for the second time! As for the service from the rest of the staff, yeah, they were on the brusk side, but did anybody notice any of the staff in other hotels, bars and restaurants singing and dancing? Didn't think so! Surly and abrupt seemed to be the order of the day just about everywhere, but we just got on with it and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely stay at the U Prince. It is just so, well, Prague, really!
Had a wonderful stay here. The staff were very friendly. Rooms immaculate and very well presented. Excellent bar downstairs with live jazz every night. Hotel restaurant was a little pricey for Prague but the quality was there. Substantial breakfast each morning. Brilliant location- walking distance to many attractions. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Returned yesterday evening having enjoyed a fantastic short break in Prague. Many thanks for all your help - all went well. Lovely hotel and prompt pick ups by the taxi driver. Excellent.
Just returned from a brilliant weekend. Hotel was excellent. Great position, beautiful rooms, cheap beer prices as compared to many hotel bars and helpful staff. I'm slightly amazed at some of the other reviews as we're already looking at returning .
I just recommended the U Prince to a friend of mine who is planning on traveling to Prague. After my recommendation, I checked these boards and was bewildered by the negative comments. However, I noted that a few of the negative remarks were made by people who were not staying in the hotel... just stopped for a drink. (Still...no excuse for bad behavior by staff members.) We had a junior suite and it was stunning. The location is superb and we found the staff to be overly friendly and extremely accomodating. We were always greeted cheerfully by all staff members and they were delightful...even at the rooftop terrace. I sometimes wonder if people don't get back the same attitude they hand out. I always travel with a smile and a kind word for service personnel and I've always been treated in kind. We loved the U Prince and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Yes, it's expensive but we were treated like royalty and considered the hotel to be worth every penny.
A short note to thank you for making our three days in Prague so enjoyable. The U Prince Hotel was excellent, the service was all we could have asked for, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful (especially the receptionists!). Also of course Prague was very nice!
Just to say how wonderful our stay in The Hotel U Prince. Exquisite hotel, perfect situation. Only complaint - we didn't have long enough in Prague and so therefore will need to come back very soon to explore further afield.
I am emailing you to thank you for all your help and guidance recently when my Wife & I enjoyed a great weekend in Prague. Please also say a thank you to our guide who showed us the city sites during our stay. We really enjoyed our weekend and we would recommend hotel U Prince and your company to any future travelers to Prague.
Tomas. I would like to thank you for an excellent holiday in Prague. The organisation of the holiday was excellent, your pick up driver was there when we arrived. The transfer transport was of a high standard and your driver was polite and curteous. The hotel was of a high quality and the staff friendly and helpful. The city of Prague was and excellent location for a holiday, wonderful architecture and lots of it.
We are back from our wonderful Prague vacation and wanted to thank you for all the fine accomodations and help you gave us that made our trip so enjoyable. We particularly loved our tour guide Lanka (spelling?). She was so knowledgeable and made the 4 hour walk fly by. Please say hello for us. Thank you once again, we will highly recommend your agency.
We arrived home last night having spent the last week in Praha at the Hotel U Prince. I want to thank you for organising the accommodation and transfers for us. The car was there to collect us from the airport when we arrived on Mon 26th Sept and arrived at the hotel at 5.00 am on Sat 1st Oct as organised for the return transfer. The U Prince was an excellent choice. The staff were very helpful (even offering us breakfast at 4.45 am on the day of our departure!), the hotel was well appointed, the breakfasts were very good, there were a number of areas for dining (including a roof terrace with views over Praha) and the central location (on the Old Town Square) was very convenient. We were very satisfied with everything at the Hotel U Price and we would stay there again. We would highly recommend the Hotel U Prince to other travellers and will be passing on your details and the details of the Hotel to any of our friends who intend to visit Praha.
We stayed at the U Prince for the first portion of our visit to the Czech Republic. We had an absolutely charming room with a balcony overlooking the Square directly across from the Old Clock Tower. The entire staff was extremely accommodating, the room was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the restaurant (we ordered Czech food). The location was excellent and we could walk anywhere and everywhere. We would definitely stay there again.
We have just returned from a short Xmas break to Prague, arranged by you and i just wanted to say thank you for everything. The Hotel U Prince was perfect and right on the old town square, the Taxi was waiting for us on arrival, as you said, when we come back we will definately be arranging everything through you,the only thing we forgot to do was arrange for a return taxi from you so we got one through the Hotel which was a lot more expensive, that wont happen again! Once again thank you.
We have just rerutned from our Prague trip which was excellent. I would like to thank you very much for arranging everything, it was all perfect, we will definately be using you again for our next visit.
TI stayed at the Hotel U Prince from 20th-22nd Dec 2003. We stayed in a Junior Suite. The hotel was fabulous. The room was a very good size and the bed was up some stairs from the rest of the room, which was very impressive. The hotel's restaurants were very good (choice of seafood and more local meat dishes), with a live jazz band playing every night and a very impressive cocktail bar. The rooftop terrace bar has wonderful views of Prague. Literally 20 metres away from the front door of the hotel is the Astronomical Clock and winter markets in the Old Town Sq. Charles Bridge is a five minute walk. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed at throughout Europe.
This hotel has got to be the best i have ever stayed in, the food, staff and views were all fantastic. If you book to go here you must try and get a view of the old town square, i would recomend room 32, thanks you to everyone who has made my trip go as smooth as possible and who has made this one of the best mini breaks that i have ever had.
I must write to you with special thanks for all your help in arranging for myself and my sister the most magical trip of a lifetime.... the City and Hotel were just outstanding and may I also thank you for the fantastic transfers and tour guide you arranged for us - they all helped to make the trip such a wonderful experience and one which we will never forget.... Please pass my appreciation to Sargar(?), our tour guide as she even took the trouble to call me early evening to advise that a concert for which I had purchased tickets had been cancelled which was very kind of her. I have recommended you to many friends over the weekend who I know wll be contacting you so that they may experience such a wonderful time also. Once again many thanks Tomas, until next time when I shall certainly be in touch with you again, Kind regards and very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year
Just to let you know that we had a wonderful stay in Prague. The hotel u prince was excellent the only fault being that we did not have a view of the square. We were extremely impressed by he service you gave any will be happy to recommend you and use your services next time we return to Prague. The transfer to the airport was on tme and the driver was charming. Thanks once again.
