Great personal touch
I am looking out the windows from the first floor of a building on Ungelt and Tyn court and I am watching the human bustle below: tourists admiring the architecture, patrons in comfortable armchairs at the garden restaurant, and above all of that the majestic Tyn cathedral tower with its melodic bells. I visualize what the Ungelt looked like in the Middle Ages when it was also the center of commotion: foreign buyers who came with their goods, also admired the city's architecture, and refreshed themselves in the local pub. They always stayed here for at least three days to offer their goods as the law required.
As time went by, Tyn court witnessed a number of historic transformations - the said building burned down and was reconstructed in 1689. The mandatory fee for storing goods, the so-called UNGELT, has not been paid by foreign buyers for some time now. Nevertheless, foreigners continue to be the Ungelt´s most frequent visitors. Transformations of the times are rather symbolically brought to mind by the name Metamorphis restaurant immediately by the east gate into the Ungelt.
Welcome to one of the most significant places of Prague, from the historical point of view , which is listed on the UNESCO protected cultural heritage list.

It was built right in the heart of The Old Town, right next to The Old Town Square. It is situated on a very romantic place.
How to get to the hotel
By subway: the A-underground station Staromestska (Old Town), passing through the Kaprova street, across the Old-Town Square and passing through the narrow street nearby the Tyn Church into the Tyn Court-yard behind the church. The B-underground station or tram station Náměstí republiky (Republic Square) by passing around the department store Kotva into its second entrance on the opposite site, then further continuing into the Jakubska street. At the end of this street, you will enter the old gate into the Tyn Court.
By car: drive from the Moldau river into the Revolucni street, pass the traffic lights directly straight to Dlouha street and follow until you reach the big department store Kotva on the right side of you, turn right, as if you were driving into the parkhouse, but continue around and follow the street into its end, the turn right to Rybná and immediatelly left again, into Jakubska street. At the end of this street, in front of you, you can drive in through the gate into the Tyn Court-yard.

Everybody can find a little corner for himself on the ground floor at the small, cosy café. From april to the end of october, even a summer terrace stands at your proposal. You can invite your business friends to an enjoyable business lunch, your partner for a cup of coffee or a glass of good vintage wine. In the menu, you will find Italian specialities of wide range, from salads, pasta, steaks to pizza, which is prepared directly in front of you, and a wide choice of desserts and ice-cream sundaes. You will not miss domestic and italian wines, draft beer and mixed drinks either. Every day, you can use our special daily offer, in the value of the meals from 75,- CZK. Club Restaurant
Is situated in the former spaces of the building, which during the 12th century served as entrance spaces into the whole object. The rests of the Romanian building and the former coat from the 16th century have been preserved there. The atmosphere of the broken spaces of the restaurant is growing stronger every night with accompanying live piano music and the decent light decorations, which make you feel like spellbound by the original architecture. You can enjoy the culinary experience by choosing meals of both Bohemian and even international cuisine and make it grow even stronger by quality Bohemian or foreign wines. In this restaurant, we serve the hotel breakfast (in buffet form) as well. The spaces of the restaurant are suitable for holding of several events, conferences, family or business events, wedding receptions, banquets, cocktails etc. and this can be held directly in the heart of the historical centre of Prague. In case of holding of any event, we can arrange for decorations, flowers, technical equipment, music, barman show in free-style, dancing or menu settings. Hotel was two minutes walk from Old Town Square but in a quiet courtyard so best of both worlds! Hotel was traditionally decorated and our room was beautiful, a mixture of an attic room and a suite as it had two twin beds (with the most comfortable soft cotton duvet and pillows!), sofa, coffee table and modern bathroom. Lovely wooden beams and windows with a view of the courtyard at one side. We eat in the restaurant one of the evenings to a piano player in the background - very romantic and the food was beautiful - and very reasonably priced for that area. Staff were also really pleasant and helpful at all times - restaurant and hotel staff. Yummy italian called La Scala at the other side of the courtyard and a champagne bar next door to the hotel!
Lovely boutique hotel in excellent location. Rooms had great character and were spotlessly clean. It is situated right in the heart of the Old Town. Close to all the sights, cafes, restaurants and shops. The neighbourhood felt very safe. I will definately stay here again if returning to Prague!
This is our 4th visit to Prague and this is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. Excellent location! Our room was fantastic and the food in the hotel was so good. They make their own really fab pizza's and tirimasu. We ate in both the cafe and also the Club Restaurant in the cellar where you receive 15% off if you are a guest at the hotel, this was really nice for a special occasion. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely return there again in the future.
The Metamorphis exceeded all of our expectations. Firstly, the location is prime, 60 seconds from the Old Town Square, overlooking an old courtyard. The staff were friendly & helpful. The room (721) was beautiful with beamed ceilings, parque wooden floor, spotlessly clean and the bathroom (5 piece) was stunning. We could not have chosen better, value for money is an understatement. Definately a hotel to be recommended.
What a little gem this very reasonably priced hotel turned out to be - close enough to the centre for all the night life to be within easy reach, but just far enough away from the main drag to be able to relax with a drink in the outdoor restaurant part of the hotel, and feel as if you're tucked away in a secluded little mews area. (Very good little jazz club just around the corner too) The room (or suite as it should more appropriately have been called) was fantastic for the price that the three of us sharing it had paid for 3 nights - extremely spacious, clean, bright and stylish, with TV and nice lounge area. The hotel food if you choose to eat there is very good, and there is an excellent fish/seafood restaurant next door to it, if you fancy something a little more upmarket. The only criticism I have is that the hotel staff and the Czech people in general didn't seem very friendly, although I gather this is probably due to the bad name that some stag and hen parties have given Brits in Prague - can't blame them really, I suppose.
We were in this hotel in March 07 and we thought the hotel was excelent. It is right in the middle of Prague and the rooms are great. Really good value for the price you pay. The only not so good thing to mention is that the breakfast is not great and the receptionist was quite unfriendly on arrival, probably because she was getting a bit stressed as there were quite a lot of people at the reception. But appart from that, all really worth it.
My room was huge and a huge bathroom (room 41). Great location of the room - on the top floor - you take the elevator to the 3rd floor and walk up a flight of stairs. High enough away didn't hear any noise down at the street - which I heard was a problem with some rooms. Other rooms I saw were also large for European hotel rooms and all great. Restaurant in the basement was great ambiance - good breakfast buffet. Restaurant outside - good food. Great location - located in the Ungelt courtyard just behind the Tyn Church - and Old Town Square. Air conditioning, tv, all the amenities you need. Bathroom had a shower and bathtub and was huge
I have just returned from my daughters wedding in Prague, the wedding party stayed at the Metamorpis Hotel which i Ibooked through travelcook.com. Everyone was more than pleased with their beautiful bedrooms. The breakfast was excellent with loads of choice.All the staff were polite and helpful . 22 guests were in our party and there was not one bad word about the hotel from anyone. The wedding reception was at the 7 Angels Hotel and again every thing was perfect. We had a great time in the wonderful city of Prague
We stayed for 2 nights and arrived by taxi from the airport (650k) The hotel is located in a small square/courtyard just behind the church of Our Lady of Tyn, a 2 minute walk from the Old Town Square. A perfect location for the old town, only 10 minutes to Charles Bridge and 15 minutes to the Castle. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are spacious and breakfast was superb. The restaraunt looked tempting but we ate out. There is a great cocktail bar around the corner (Bar and Books) and for the beer there is Fat Boys and Rouge literally on the doorstep. The coffee house at the opposite side of the small square served great Late. I am really glad we a stayed here and would certainly book again
We have spent lovely time at Metamorphis. We had a room 38 with huge bathroom and historical furniture. Breakfast is very rich (choice of hot and cold – enough for all gurmans) but it is better to come earlier.. My boyfriend found a free hotel Wifi internet so we were able to write emails. Hotel is about 150m meters from fabulous Old Town Square with astronomical clock. We ate just in hotel pizza restaurant in the ground space but they have one donwstairs too. We will book this hotel for our parents as a gift. They will love this romantic place. I can definatelly recommend it to my friends.
I'm writing this review as some other reviewers had made me worry prior to our visit, unnecessarily I would add. Personally we had a fantastic time in a really lovely hotel made even better by the location and the service. We were travelling with our 1 year old so the location was important and as everyone says it couldn’t be better. I had contacted the hotel prior to our visit to confirm some details and they could not have been more helpful. The staff were professional and efficient and knew who we were before we got a foot in the door. The room was immaculate and very large with lots of character and quirks. We like the boutique type hotels with character and this one fits the bill. We didn’t eat in the full restaurant downstairs but did eat in the ground floor restaurant and can highly recommend the pizza’s. In response to some other reviews. The buffet breakfast with meats and cheeses is a continental breakfast…this is exactly the type of breakfast you would get anywhere on the continent, and in response to those that didn’t sleep well we had 3 nights wonderful sleep even the baby slept better! Maybe the fresh air? Finally the complaint about the hotel arranged taxi’s being more expensive…the difference equated to L3 small price to pay to know you’ll get there on time. Friendly is a thing that goes both ways and I found that in Prague if you were pleasant to those you met then it was normally given back in return.
Great place to stay if you have three people. The room was spacious and the extra bed was comfortable. The breakfast was also great and you can't beat the location (just a 2 minute walk to the Old Square). The real beds are not very comfortable though.

We have just returned from Prague. We had a most enjoyable stay in your lovely city. The People were very friendly, architecture was fabulous and we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Metamorphis. However, my main purpose for the e-mail was to thank travel cook for the excellent service, from helping to arrange our booking and most importantly the airport transfers. It was most pleasant having a personal driver waiting for us who was very helpful. The return transfer was just as efficient and our driver was early and willing to help with the cases. We were also pleased that a car seat had been provided for our baby.

We (five female friends) have just spent four nights at the Hotel Metamorphis. It is in a superbly situated, quiet location within easy reach of all the attractions. The rooms - 2 suites were interconnecting with a small terrace overlooking the interior courtyard. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. We couldn't fault anything, though you need to get to...
Thank you very much for your service provided recently whilst we stayed in Prague. The airport transfers in and out were punctual and great, the guided walking tour of the city was very informative and interesting with "Shraga" and the Hotel Metamorphis was delightful, very clean, breakfasts were tasty and the staff were very friendly and efficient.

The room was beautiful, the staff friendly and heplful, the price very reasonable, (everything in Prague is reasonably priced), the breakfast (included) delicious. And the location was perfect - mind you, this was not...
this is a classy hotel stayed here twice now some noise to back of hotel but well double glazed,staff fantastic,top location no need for transport well worth extra costs, rooms fantastic, bathroom the best see pictures,i went in feb 2006 -8 outside +20 in rooms,ideal for a romantic trip away
Could I just thank you for the the booking of our hotel and also the transfers from and to the airport. The hotel was just as you had said and the staff could not do enough for us and the position of the hotel was exactly what we required. The taxi driver was prompt and polite, even though we were delayed outbound this caused us no problems. Just to let you know we have returned from your beautiful city and had the most wonderful holiday. Everything was excellent, hotel, flights, tours, and even the weather(!). The hotel (Metamorphis) was a great choice, we hope to return again next year, and also the tours and our guides, both Jan, who did the 4hour walking tour to Prague Castle with us, and Hanna, who took us to the Karlstein Castle, were so friendly and knowledgable and their English was so good we felt quite ashamed that we did not know a word from the Czech Republic! I wish to say how much my friends and I enjoyed our recent visit to Prague (29/5/05 - 3/6/05 and our stay in the Metamorphis Hotel. Our accommodation was superb, facilities and extras couldn't be faulted and the service excellent. The inclusive breakfast was varied, plentiful and well presented. Staff were helpful and friendly. We were extemely pleased with the location of the hotel and the easy access to Old Town Square and the many places to visit from there. Only slight drawback the regularity and noise of the 'rubbish collection' during the night (but we got used to it and it certainly didn't spoil the holiday!). Our transfer arrangements to and from the airport were excellent and meant a stress-free start and end to our holiday. We were delighted with the City of Prague; its beauty, cleanliness, numerous restaurants, shops, friendly people and excellent transport system enabled us to easily access the many places of interest. We would thoroughly recommend others to use your travel service, the excellent hotel which met all of your recommendations and would encourage anyone to visit Prague for a wonderful holiday. Finally the weather during our stay was superb!!!

Well - I'm back from Prague ! ! ! What a lovely city ! ! ! Thank you soo much for your help with accommodation. The Hotel Metamorphis was perfect ! ! ! The location was so central and the staff were so nice and friendly. Our room, though not very large, was really nice. We were on the third floor and had sloping ceilings and wooden beams. The furniture was in keeping with this and was lovely. The bathroom was big, bright and airy. One more thing - the hotel has two restaurants. An outdoor one serving pastas and pizzas and a more formal one downstairs. The downstairs restaurant is an award winning restaurant, famed for steaks. I would recommend you try this eatery - we did and it merited a second visit ! ! ! Again, Tomas, thanks for your patience, kindness and help. I would have no hesitation in recommending your services to anybody in the future.

The hotel both for situation and accommodation was superb. The taxi service was excellent, despite the very bad snow conditions on Tuesday morning which appeared to cause chaos in the centre of Prague! The guided tour was most informative with an exceptional guide who was a fount of knowledge. Please extend our thanks to her. The 4 hours were over very quickly but we managed to see so many sights. We had a magical 4 days and even saw Carmen Opera on Friday and The Four Seasons at the Municipal House another night. We all fell in love with the city and will most definitely visit again. Had a great 4 night break at this hotel. We had a suite which was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. We saw a few of the other rooms and they were lovely too. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The only slight downside was that the suite didn't have air conditioning , not all rooms have it so if a/c is important to you then ask before you book. The hotel is in a great position in a quieter spot near Old Town Square. I would certainly recommend this hotel especially if you want to treat yourself.
We have just returned from Prague where we spent 3 nights at this hotel. All I can say is that this is an excellent hotel. The staff were all so nice and friendly and it was a real pleasure to return to this hotel after a day out. We had to catch a 6:30am taxi and they even provided us with a carry away breakfast. The room we had was large but not expensive (persumably because it was not high peak season) and the furnishings were new and very pleasant. The hotel was located to the main sights and was very very convenient. I have stayed in many hotels in Europe and this is one of the best.

The Hotel Metamorphis was excellent, ideally placed very near the Old Town Square, with a very comfortable room, pleasant and helpful staff, with a good restaurant. The transfer service to and from the airport to the hotel was ideal and very good and efficient. It made the start and the end of the break very easy and comfortable. We certainly enjoyed Prague and were delighted with the City and the atmosphere everywhere. It is a charming city. Thank you again for your help. This hotel is in central Prague, just off the main square, but in a relatively quiet location. So everything is on your doorstep and you also get a good nights sleep. The room we had was tastefully decorated and very clean and spacious with an extremely large bathroom. Breakfast was reached via a series of spiral staircases in an atmospheric cellar. It consisted of a good selection of cold meats, cheeses, cereals etc. The restaurant on the ground floor seemed to be popular and certainly our experience of it, which consisted of a desert and coffee, was very positive. Throughout our whole stay the staff were friendly and efficient. Would happily stay here again.
We stayed in the metamorphis in December 2004 and found it a lovely hotel very traditonal. The staff where very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The minibus failed to arrive on the morning we where leaving and the girl on reception went out of her way to make sure we got a taxi on time for the airport.
We stayed here just for two nights (Nov. 25, '04 - Nov. 27, '04). I'd requested a quiet room facing the plaza. We got that and then some. Our room (#44) was under the roof. It had a sitting area with sofa & chairs, a full bath with bidet, and a comfortable (very hard!) bed. There were windows on both sides of the room (it's the very last room of the hallway). There are exposed wooden beams and the furniture is antique looking. Although I don't normally expect a lot of service in Czech republic (probably a communism holdover), the reception staff were friendly and answered our questions well. The included breakfast is humongous and delicious. Parking a rented SUV in the little courtyard was tricky, but then again, who needs a car in Prague? We only pulled it out when we were ready to move on. There's a tiny elevator that goes to the second floor. Beyond that you have to use stairs. The hotel is in a quiet plaza behind the cathedral on the main plaza (the one with the famed clock tower) and you can reach any of the old-town destinations by walking.
We stayed in the Metamorphosis Hotel for three nights at the beginning of November and found it to be an excellent hotel. It is only 3* but is in a fantastic location in a lovely courtyard just behind Old Square with the fabulous Tyns Church in between. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and all spoke very good English, which was handy because our Czech is non-existent! The rooms were immaculately clean and our room was very spacious. The Continental breakfast was hearty and the pizzas were delicious. Prague is a wonderful city, and this, in my opinion is the perfect hotel in the perfect location. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning.
Just come back from Prague after staying in the hotel and I have only good words to say about all the staff of the hotel. The room and the food were very good and all of our questions including of my little child was answered in the most levelly way. Sure I will come back.

The only slight downside was that the suite didn't have air conditioning , not all rooms have it so if a/c is important to you then ask before you book. The hotel is in a great position in a quieter spot near Old Town Square. I would certainly recommend this hotel especially if you want to treat yourself.
I recently spent six nights at the Metamorphis and it is a real treasure. The corner room (#21) was HUGE, light, airy and immaculately clean, with a small kitchen and an incredible view of the small square and Tyne Church towers. With period furnishings, quality artwork, good lighting and bountiful high-quality breakfasts the Metamorphis will appeal to those who appreciate unique charming surroundings. The staff were extremely helpful, going out of their way to help us ship last minute "impulse buys" and sending us off with a picnic breakfast when we had to leave for the airport at 4AM. The location was perfect, right off of the main Town Square, but secluded enough to feel relaxing. I can't say enough good things about this place and I will definitely return!
We have returned to England today after an excellent stay in your hotel. Our 4 nights could not have been better - the food and courtesy of your staff need special mention. Can you please say a very big "thank you", to the two young ladies who were on duty in your reception on Thursday morning. Their extremely helpful attitude and lovely manner during our stay was a credit to the hotel, and to them. It was certainly the best experience we have had anywhere in the world.
I want to thank you so much for arranging our trip to Prague. We found the city magical and we were 100% pleased with all of the plans you made for us. The Metamorphis Hotel exceeded all of our expectations. It was a wonderful recommendation. I sent a review of the hotel to a frequently used US website www.tripreview.com and I have included the review below. Please feel free to incorporate this review into any recommendation you might choose to use on your own website as I'm not sure how to do that. I would also appreciate it if you would forward the review to the manager of the Metamorphis. I don't have their direct email address and they really do need to be complemented. I highly recommend your private airport transfers over public transportation; the drivers were gracious, efficient and informative both from and to the airport. I have given your email address to friends in New Jersey who will soon be arranging a trip to Prague with eight people. I have suggested to them that they spend at least six days, as we did. I don't understand how some packaged tours allow only two days to see Prague. It is completely impossible to begin to see the city in that amount of time. We LOVED Prague and plan to return sometime in the next couple of years to see more of Prague as well as visiting other parts of the Czech Republic. I will, of course, contact you when we start making return plans.
I just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed the Metamorphis and will highly recommend it to anyone who will be going to Prague. Fabulous location and the rooms were terrific, wonderfully large, and the breakfast that was included was very delicious and had a great selection. The staff were great also. Just to let you know that our weekend in Prague was really fantastic. The hotel (Bishop's House) was lovely, and absolutely perfectly placed to explore the city. We enjoyed good weather, great walks, good food and drink and loved the beautiful buildings. We will definitely be visiting again.
We stayed four nights in the Metamorphis Hotel last week. We'd like to say how much we enjoyed our stay. The Metamorphis is perfectly situated, very close to the tourist areas and bars and restaurants, but also in a quiet coutyard. The staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant superb. We liked everything about the hotel, its history, location, food, room, staff etc. I would recommend that visitors ask for a room with a view over the Ungelt , towards the Cathedral. Also, the hotel is not suitable for the infirm. Even though there is a lift there are still lots of stairs to negotiate, mainly the spiral steps down to breakfast in the restaurant. Your taxi was waiting for us at the airport & picked us up promptly on our return trip. Our son was married at the New Town Hall on the Thursday & it was my birthday the following day, so a very special trip. The hotel management gave me a bottle of wine for my birthday which was much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your lovely city and hope to visit it again before too long. We will recommend, without hesitation, both Prague and the Metamorphis.

We were in Prague as part of our Honeymoon, and we stayed at the Four Seasons for 6 nights, and had to return to Prague as a stop-over to Denmark for 1 night. We spent that night at the Metamorphisis on Mala Stuparska. It was a great experience. The room was large, very clean, and decorated beautifully in period furnishings. The staff was extremely pleasant, and proud of their hotel. The restaurant in the cellar served outstanding cuisine, and it had a very enjoyable atmosphere. I would (and will) recommend the Metamorphisis to anyone I know who travels to Prague. Thank you again for your services!

Our room was beautiful, very comfortable and clean. We had a very relaxing time together with our baby. Everybody was attentive and friendly, including the driver who picked us up at the airport. I have only positive feelings about the whole trip, and our stay at the hotel contributed to this very much.
